Rough Concept Network - BRT

A BRT station is established within the QSAC precinct. Having train station platforms overloaded and bursting with passengers is a major hazard. People could fall or be pushed onto the tracks in this scenario, and disrupt train services. Therefore, multiple stations should serve as connection points to split the crowd and share/balance the load. A greater focus on risk and safety will be a major change since 1982.

Concept Descriptions

1. Line 1 (Blue) Coopers Plains to QSAC
Construct a bus interchange between Rookwood and Beaton Streets with access via both streets. After the games, this facility can be used as a legacy facility to allow BUZ 120 to be modified to feed Griffith Uni students to and from the Beenleigh Line as part of its route.

Coopers Plains Station - QSAC via McCullough Street

2. Line 2 (Red) Altandi to QSAC
Altandi-QSAC via Mains Rd Corridor
Construct a bus interchange on vacant land opposite Altandi Station.

3. Line 3 (Gold) Corinda to QSAC
Corinda-QSAC via Kessels Rd Corridor.
Construct a bus interchange at Corinda Station. Corinda has multiple platforms and additional train services from the CBD could terminate there. Multiple platforms also mean the crowd can be spread across multiple platforms.

4. Line 4 (Green) Eight Mile Plains to QSAC
Place a temporary charge on the P&R at Eight Mile Plains to meter demand. Those who want to drive to Eight Mile Plains and park there could be allowed to do so.

Eight Mile Plains - Upper Mt Gravatt Station (Surface Interchange) - QSAC

5. Line 5 (Teal) City to QSAC via SEB
Roma Street - KGS - Cultural Centre - SEB - QSAC. Buy additional Brisbane Metro buses and use these to run the services.

Coopers Plains Interchange - BUZ 120 Routing Legacy Benefit

Building a bus interchange at Coopers Plains will have an ongoing legacy benefit. It will allow BUZ 120 to act as a high-frequency shuttle between Coopers Plains, QE II Hospital, Griffith University and Upper Mount Gravatt/SEB.

Before
Poor connection between train users and Griffith University. Current BCC bus network shown. The BUZ runs a classic anti-train route, turning into Musgrave Road just 800 m short of Coopers Plains station.

BUZ120_Current.jpg

After
High-frequency bus connection with 15-min buses meeting 15-min trains at the tail end of the BUZ 120 route. Easy access for Beenleigh line passengers to QE II Hospital, Griffith Uni, Upper Mt Gravatt Westfield and the SEB.

Extension of Brisbane Metro:

Looks good Gazza. Would be nice as Priority B ROW as well.

Im not sure of the urgency of this one now.
The 125 is going HF as part of the Brisbane Metro changes, so that will provide the rail connection to those 3 stations, but via Salisbury.

#Metro

So long as Buz 120 goes near it, there will be a need for a connection and interchange.

This is incremental improvement stuff.

Why is there a need though?
Your stated need is this:

a high-frequency shuttle between Coopers Plains, QE II Hospital, Griffith University and Upper Mount Gravatt/SEB.

Well, we have another route doing that, the 125. There's no reason to favor Coopers Plains over Salisbury as the actual connection point.
Salisbury is getting Wheelchair access, and it will be a future interchange point for rail to Flagstone, so if you are going to invest money in a bus interchange, then do it where it has higher benefit.
(Not every station is going to become a full blown bus interchange)

Making the 120 deviate even further south is basically the opposite of steam ironing since its adding another 3km of distance for all other users, wether or not they are actually planning on connecting with rail.

Anyway, I'm not sure of the point of presenting the idea is, since the default response would be "No need since you can use the 125, or the proposed 155 (Which runs Coopers Griffith)
Having a 3rd route doing the Griffith rail connection is probably overkill.

Personally if it were up to me, the 120 woudnt even go down Orange Grove Rd or Musgrave Rd, it would go along Kessels Rd:

So if I were a resident at Tarrigindi or Nathan, I would access the rail line how?

The 125 doesn't look as frequent as the 120?

Edit: just saw your previous message re the metro frequency improvements.

Ha! I used to live in Coopers Plains (not that close to the rail line) and now work in Nathan. The short answer is, "you don't". The train line isn't particularly well located, the buses are faster to get into the CBD, and basically anywhere else.

#Metro

And that's the thing. You should be able to access the rail line easily for a trip to wherever, not just the CBD.

Buses need to connect with trains, a bus interchange will allow that to happen.

Gazza

It's just a geometric issue.

In this pocket of Brisbane you potentially want
-Connections with Griffith
-Connections with Garden City
-Connections with QE2 Hospital
-Connections with Sunnybank Plaza
-Connections with Rail
-Connections with Busway

And if you try to do them all on the one route, you get the 123

123 bus.jpg

In trying to better service one destination, you can inadvertently make it worse for other people.
The bus is being "pulled" in opposite directions between different trip generators.
Eg imagine if someone in Tarragndi or Nathan is wanting to go to Garden City. They don't want to be doing laps around Coopers Plains they want to go direct along main roads.

I think if you were wanting to improve rail access to those suburbs, something like the B8 proposed as part of the Greens Bus Boost is the approach that should be taken. In other words dont try and mix up direct radial routes with cross town and feeder functions imo.

#Metro

Just connect the bus to the train station. It's keeping to straight roads.

It's a lot of effort I'm seeing to argue for not connecting a frequent bus to a frequent train.

Generally our position is they should connect, and for non-CBD trips too.

Gazza

Im all for frequent bus to frequent train connections, but a massive U turn halfway through the route is not the way to design it.

#Metro

Disagree. It's at the tail end of the route.

Choice between that or no connection at all to rail for Tarragindi or Nathan residents.

QSAC won't go ahead, and neither should it.

A $1.6b+ white elephant.

#Metro

Another concept would be Priority B lanes between Salisbury and Westfield UMG.

Run buses ex. Salisbury Station. The pedestrian environment on Kessels Rd is pretty bad, I wonder hope anyone gets access to Kessels Rd at Estoril Street Stop 56.

Could be bus lanes or something more substantial.

SurfRail

There is going to be a large and substantial network of special event buses no matter which larger stadiums are used.  This is the same arrangement that has been in place Sydney Olympic Park ever since the 2000 Olympics, railway notwithstanding.
