Brisbanetimes -->  Tolls to be refunded for gridlocked Gateway motorists

Quote... Tolls on the Gateway Motorway will be waived for all motorists caught in gridlock this morning.

Traffic congestion has cleared on the Gateway Motorway after two southbound lanes on the new bridge were closed, leaving only one open this morning, due to roadworks.

Traffic came to a standstill along the Gateway Motorway back to the Shell Service Station at Nudgee ...

???

Pity the poor punters who can't get on the bus or a train that doesn't arrive ...
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

Where are all these cars coming and going to?
There are so many, that it would easily justify a railway line! After all, traffic on this bridge justified the $1.8 billion duplication so that there are now 12 lanes of traffic!

No offence but I know quite a few people who drive across the Gateway every day and all of them are tradies (or the like) who need to drive around in their vehicle all day with their junk (not just to and from work). A bit of the survey of the type traffic on the Gateway indicates that this represents a very large portion of the total.

So unfortunately you can build as many rail lines as you like but there is still going to be a lot of traffic on the Gateway. So sorry.

I think there are a lot of assumptions there. Many of them similar to the ones transport planners must be using to think that there is no need for PT to the port of Brisbane.

Do you have a link to this survey so we can check it?

Wait what? Sorry. In my haste to get a post out last night I made a bit of an error. There is no official survey. Just my own observations from being on the Gateway at certain times of day. There are far more trade-type vehicles on the Gateway Motorway than perhaps any other road in Brisbane. Just my personal observation.

I would say (just from my personal observation) that significantly more than half the vehicles on the Gateway Motorway are carrying something more than a passenger.
