I must admit we found the SMRT really passenger friendly (will get another taste in 3 weeks).  I think Singaporeans have more respect.  I don't think either my wife or I got touched up once and we traveled extensively through Chinatown, Clark Quay, Dhoby Ghaut and Orchard stations often.  It's like any environment where people are jammed up together, someone is going to take advantage of the situation.  I much prefer the SMRT to the Paris Metro or London Tube in that respect.
