Ipswich trains given info screens

QuoteIpswich trains given info screens

IPSWICH residents commuting to Brisbane by train will be able to see and hear journey information following the launch of a $15 million project to install Passenger Information Display Screens.

Queensland Rail interim chief customer officer Theo Taifalos said the project would provide passengers with instant journey updates on easy-to-read screens that operate in conjunction with the public address system.

"These new screens will help Queensland Rail provide our customers with up-to-date, essential information throughout their journey such as station details, special events and safety messages," Mr Taifalos said.

"The up-to-date information helps domestic and international visitors understand where they are at all times, especially if they aren't familiar with the Queensland Rail network. "The screens also provide an essential reference point to our customers who may have a hearing impairment or low vision."

Is this network wide or just a trial on the Ipswich line? In that case could it be the beginning of the sectoring we have heard about?
"Where else but Queensland?"

Are these those little things that are commonly on the emergency intercome posts? or the proper info displays like at central/roma (or their smaller LED cousins like for example on a few of the ferny line)?

The article is referring to the LCD Passenger Information Displays.

I am wondering whether this $15m could have been spent in better ways. How many extra train services could this money provide? How many more drivers would it train? How much would it allow tickets to be discounted?

New screens are nice, but all they will show is that the next train is in half an hour... :-\
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

I believe or read it as these are on the train not the station. There was a tender for these last year IIRC.
