Hunter valley coal hopper

The hopper on the truck at Redbank is one of the new standard gauge hoppers being built at Redbank for QR National Hunter Valley coal service, apparently they build them to this stage then take them out to a contractor to be sandblasted then they are returned to Redbank for the completion of the fitting of couplers, hopper doors and brake equipment and bogies, when completed they will be taken by road to Acacia Ridge to be railed south.

If only QR/ARG showed just as much interest in chasing and winning more general freight as they seem to with the lucrative coal traffic.

The hoppers are not Railed from Acacia Ridge. The hoppers are sent south by truck to Casino in Northern NSW where they are placed on the rails and assembled into a batch where they are sent south. So far G513 GM10 hauled one batch south. this was followed by 42302 which worked the second batch south. 42304 went north a week before easter i suspect it will bring a batch back some time soon.

the new hoppers have enterred service in the Hunter i saw a rake in action and already some have seen graffiti and show signs of hitting things. Will post a picture later.

The New QHBH hoppers have started to enter service in the Hunter Valley.

New batch of QHBH hoppers must be ready for transfer as 42302 worked north through Coffs Harbour this afternoon on its way to Casino.
