The Grandchester Community is having a celebration to mark 145 years of the first railway line in Queensland (Ipswich to Bigge's Camp opened on 31st July 1865). Festivities planned for the day to be held at Grandchester Recreational Reserve include:

Working Blacksmith Displays
Steam Engines
Cobb and Co coach rides
Craft Stalls
Model Live Steam Train Rides
Food Stalls
Vintage Cars, Motorcycles, Trucks, and Tractors, *Static and Working Displays of Old Machinery
Children's Rides.

The ARHS Qld special train will steam out of Roma St for the fast run out through the western suburbs towards Ipswich. After leaving Ipswich the scenery changes to more rural for the quick run through Rosewood and on to Grandchester.

BB 18¼ 1079 has been requested for this tour. Should this loco not be available then another steam engine from the QR Heritage fleet will be substituted. Wooden carriages from QR's heritage fleet will be used.

:lo I'm volunteering on the steam train. As far as I know the train is completely sold out. Going to be a great day at Grandchester if you can make it.

Too bad we don't have regular commuter rail services for those unable to board the steam train.
