Quote"Train patronage has declined in the past four years in the sunshine state.

In the 2008-09 financial year, 60.9 million trips were taken on the network. That dropped to 57.6 million in 2009-10 (down 5.4%), and 2010-11 saw a further drop to 55m trips (down 4.5%).

In 2011-12 the number of trips taken dropped again, down 4% to just 52.8 million, which is around 10 million fewer trips than travelled on the Perth rail network over the same time-span with less than half of the rollingstock fleet."

Unless drastic change comes to SE Qld rail infrastructure AND operations Windorah (nice place) in the west will likely overtake "Brisbackwards" in the next decade!  :fp:
SEQ, where our only "fast-track" is in becoming the rail embarrassment of Australia!   :frs:

Has the Queensland media picked up on this yet?

South East Queensland's population is increasing at about 3% PA whilst rail patronage has dropped 4-5% PA for 3 years in a row indicates there is a serious problem that needs addressing.

Yes been highlighted before,  the patronage slide on rail and bus (22% increase in services past 3 years, patronage only grew 0.5%) is one of the major reasons why we are having the fare review now. As indicated by the Minister, the PTAG has been tasked to advise on fares next meeting.
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...
