Hi Ozbob,

Thanks for sharing the photos!

I am from Geraldton in Western Australia where we currently have 3 of the DFZ's. It will be good to see DF2406-DFZ2407 back in WA hopefully to Geraldton.

I have some photos of them at either of these sites and videos at youtube.
The best combo was a quad of these after 1 had failed....

Welcome aboard P2017!  Seems as modified the locos are better suited to the West.

Thanks for sharing your links for the photographs, nice work.

I find it strange that they need any more loco's over there whilst ARG are busy letting some serious traffic go to road??? Recently the Picton container trains, the quartz traffic and the Collie to Narngulu coal train to name a few has all gone to road, not to mention the grain line closures.

Word is that they are required for iron ore workings.

Yes this is correct, with new mines starting in the next couple of years they will need at least 20 locos.

I have heard the coal traffic had stopped due to a issue with a contract between Illuka and the mine they were hauling coal from. Since they are hauling coal by truck from a non railed coal mine they cant rail it.

Also one of the lines reopened this week at Merredin so maybe things are looking good.

So how can QR claim loco shortages as a convenient excuse to cease certain runs ie; grain and cattle trains, then turn around and send 'surpus' locos to WA???

P2017

Does anyone know if DFZ2406 is ready to leave QLD?

Cheers

David

Why do they have to be transported by road?  Are they non-standard gauge?

These locos are NG, they could be moved by rail on SG transfer bogies as are the electric sets being built for the Perth system.
It is understood that there is still a set of ex NSWGR 49 class SG bogies at the Interail Casino depot which could be used for these transfer movements.
Interail is part of the QR organisation as are ARG and QR National but it would seem that to do such a move in house is beyond the ability of QR to co-ordinate.
It is probable that in the future more 2300 class locos will be transfered to WA for duties on iron ore haulage duties with ARG as DFZ 2400 class.
