Why do we have so many useless duplications of bus service/go to the city?

Hi all,
Why does Brisbane need to have so many bus services basically duplicating each other for large parts of their route, and why do we have all these buses going straight into the CBD when in reality they should terminate in the nearest suburban hub?

One good example is the western suburbs buses. Surely it would be more beneficial to fix up the hole that is Indooroopilly and have pax either take the train to the city or take a new high frequency BUZ to the city, terminating at Indooroopilly, or even (heaven forbid!) a tram route to the city?

I imagine this would free up a LOT of buses during peak which could be used for other cross town routes/upgrades  :o

Is it simply that people are too lazy that we need to have them sitting in one seat for their whole journey to the city?

Opinions?

To me, a better question is: Why do we have route 88, or at least the western part of it.

Being frank and fearless - yes and no.

Yes, because the system is designed for and encourages single seat trips in the BCC area.  Beyond that, not so much, but still largely oriented on travel to Brisbane or local welfare services.

No, because you can't expect people to behave otherwise when until now the bus network has been improperly resourced.

Now the means exist to fix the problem, they should be employed properly.

Silly things abound like the 161 going to the city as an express during the week, confusing stopping patterns and route numbers on certain corridors (Mains Road and the Centenary area in particular), western expresses continuing past Indooroopilly inbound, 340 and 330 mirroring each other when the more lightly patronised 340 could become an all-stopper to Chermside and the 330 could be BUZed for only limited outlay, having route 115 instead of creating a high quality cross-town route along Compton Road connecting it to the 100, 110, 130, 140, 150 and 555 etc

^^ Another example is the 183, which should be scrapped, with the 177 running half-hourly the whole time. And as we all know, the 160 is unnecessary - just run the 111 every 7-8 minutes weekdays. Routes like the Great Circle Line and 358 have the potential to be full-time frequent routes. The 202 could be straightened out (also routed via Mater Hill busway station etc, like all the other routes in the vicinity), and have upgrades to its frequencies and operating hours. (After all, it doubles as a radial and orbital route, really.)

Um didn't people utterly despise the 400 when Hale St Bridge was being built??

It would be annoying to get off a bus that is full to transfer to another bus, If it were transferring to light rail or rail than i would be in favor. The image I get though is 3 almost full buses arriving at once and a 3 min wait till the next 400 that everyone will not fit on

The State Government really screwed up badly when redeveloping Indooroopilly Station.  It unquestionably should have included a rail/bus interchange and then most/all the 4xx buses from west of Indooroopilly could've terminated there and people could either transfer to a train or a frequent bus (possibly travelling via Jephson & Croydon Sts then Milton Rd) for areas not service well by the train e.g. Toowong Private Hopsital and the streets north of Milton Rd.
