Avoid the stampede - take free public transport to Broncos footy game

Rugby league fans converging on Suncorp Stadium to watch the Brisbane Broncos take on the St. George Dragons tomorrow night can avoid peak-hour traffic and take advantage of free public transport.

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan is urging commuters to show their pre-paid game ticket on all Brisbane Transport or QR services to travel free to and from the match, which starts at 6.30pm.

"Public transport is the easiest, quickest and most cost-effective way for people to travel to and from the game and avoid Friday afternoon peak-hour traffic," Ms Nolan says.

"On average more than 90 per cent of patrons use public transport to travel to see the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.

"Broncos fans edge out the Queensland Reds fans, however, with 80 per cent of Reds fans using public transport to travel to Suncorp Stadium on average.

"TransLink is advising commuters to visit the TransLink website, www.translink.com.au to help them plan their transport to and from the game.

Patrons going to the game can catch event shuttle bus services from the CBD, Carindale, Eight Mile Plains, Chermside, Kedron and The Gap, which will start at 4.30pm, two hours before the game's kick-off.

The shuttle buses will run approximately every five minutes from the city, every 15 minutes from Carindale, Eight Mile Plains, Chermside and The Gap, and every 45 minutes from Kedron.

Shuttle buses will depart from under the Southern Plaza and Given Terrace for one hour after the end of the game.

There will also be additional train services after the event from Milton and Roma Street stations.

Commuters should also be aware that buses will run in lieu of trains from Coomera to Robina stations after 8pm on Friday due to scheduled track closures this weekend.

For more information about public transport and services to major events go to www.translink.com.au or phone 13 12 30, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
