I currently/did travel to TAFE most days so currently have a concessional card which expires this month and I know I'm meant to order a new adult one but i'm returning to TAFE more then likely next year (depends what happens) which would mean i would have to order a new gocard again so is there anyway I can skip going over to a adult card which I won't use and then just update my current one when I re-enrol, because I won't be using gocard for anything till I go back?....

I don't think there is any way around it unless you can get a new ID card with a later expiry.  The concession go card is linked to the expiry of the entitlement.

When your current entitlement expires that is it. If you are continuing you might be able to get an updated ID from TAFE that could then allow you to make immediate application for a new concession go card?

Other than that you will have to wait I expect.

Regardless, if you have an expired concession card, in this case a student card, then you are meant to purchase an adult ticket (paper or Go Card).  If you travel with an expired concession card and purchase a concession ticket then fines do apply.

The point is, I won't be travelling via public transport at all till I'm back at TAFE.

They cannot change the expiry of the Go card once it is entered. That means if your expiry of the concession entitlement changes, ie is extended, prior or after its original expiry, your student go card will still expire, you'll have to buy a new card then ask for a balance transfer from one card to the next.

in your position, the main issue is the timeframe that you have to request the balance transfer from your soon to be expired student go card, and whether this date will occur before or after when you get the new student card and new student go card.

make sense?

I had a concession entitlement that they'd typed in wrong in their computer, and i was forced to purchase a new card. i didn't bother getting the balance transferred cos it was in "negative" as I'd had some error penalty fares and despite the card deposit, I couldn't be bothered jumping through hoops to get the refund, then get the transfer.

When I was looking at  the Go Card Retailers page on the TransLink website, it lists "Change Expiry Date" as one of the possible services offered.

Looks like it is in fact possible to change the expiry dates on Go Cards.

QuoteWhen will my go card expire?

       * Adult and senior go cards don't expire.
       * Concession go cards expire on the same date as the concession entitlement card - that is, the school student identification card, tertiary student identification card, Pensioner Concession Card or Queensland Repatriation Health Card that you used to prove your eligibility when you bought your go card.
       * Child go cards expire on the child's 15th birthday.

You can't use your go card after the expiry date.

Thirty days before your card expires you will see a warning message on the card reader each time you touch on or touch off.

You can change the expiry date on your card at a retailer where you can top up your go card. Simply present both your go card and valid concession entitlement card or proof of age document (for child cards) to the retailer and they will update your expiry date.

The expiry date can be updated at any time before the current go card expiry date, and within 90 days of the card's expiry.

There is no limit to the number of times an expiry date can be modified (warranty period applies from time of issue) so you can continue to use the same go card.

Hmm I wonder what the warning message will be hopefully not the "seek assistance" default message on the reader

Hi
You have several options.
1. You can apply for a refund of your expired card. This includes the deposit. Don't know if this can be done by phone or if you must fill in a form.

2. If enrolments for your course at TAFE are open now you can enrol and get a new student card. If you are full-time you can then get a new go card and have the balance transfered over. This can be done by phone or by post with appropiate form. With this method they will register your go card even if you don't want them to as they claim they can only do this for registered cards.

If TAFE are being slack as usual and don't have enrolment forms ready yet then follow option 1.
3. If you aren't using public transport then there is no need for you to get a card and it would be a waste even if you did make one or two trips.
