SEQ:  Rail revolution out west

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has congratulated the Trackstar Alliance, Queensland Rail and TransLink on the successful transition of access to Darra railway station.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Out west, a rail revolution is occurring.  The track amplification between Corinda and Darra West (1), the construction of the branch line to Richlands and soon to Springfield (2,3), and the upgrade of Oxley (4) and Darra stations (5) is a  demanding 'brown field' project of great complexity."

"Last weekend, there was a track closure between Corinda and Rosewood. This permitted a number of maintenance and construction tasks to be undertaken on the western main line.  Of particular significance was the removal of the footbridge at Darra, and commissioning the subway at the City end of the platforms. A new foot bridge is to be built at Darra."

"I travelled to Darra early Monday morning as services resumed.  It was pleasing to note the bright improved subway and other construction improvements to the new Darra railway station.  There was plenty of helpful staff assisting and guiding passengers through the new arrangements.  A huge effort had been made during the weekend to ensure that things went well with the resumption of rail services early Monday morning."

"We would like to thank the staff of the Trackstar Alliance, Queensland Rail and TransLink for their ongoing support for passengers during this complex project.  It is not an easy task."

"There have been disruptions, but the gain will certainly be worth it. Well done all!"
