ACCC is expecting bowser prices to increase because the price of oil has been rising in Singapore, while the Australian dollar has been falling.

Australia's consumer watchdog says petrol prices are set to rise ahead of New Year's Eve, and motorists will get the best deals if they fill up early next week.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is expecting bowser prices to increase because the price of oil has been rising in Singapore, while the Australian dollar has been falling.

ACCC commissioner Joe Dimasi says prices tend to peak on Thursdays and Fridays in the big capital cities.

"If you need petrol, you need petrol, but you'd be best off waiting till Monday, Tuesday if you can manage that, and try to fill up then," he said.
