SEQ:  Tour our public transport network these holidays

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has said there are many great holiday opportunities for fun excursions on our public transport network in south-east Queensland for the whole family.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The Citytrain network, suburban and interurban is one of the worlds great 3 foot 6 inch gauge commuter railways.  Take yourself and the children for a ride on air-conditioned trains.  Some great locations to visit are on the Gold Coast; check out the new station at Varsity Lakes or travel to one of the many attractions in the area."

"Like a nice comfortable longer train ride? A trip to Gympie North is always a great day out. Highlights include nice views of the Glass house mountains and a rural landscape and travel on one of the busiest single railway lines in the nation."

"Rosewood is a great place to visit for a counter lunch.  Cleveland, fish and chips!  Ferny Grove a short but surprisingly a scenic line, and on weekends a great way to visit the Brisbane Tramway Museum (1). Nambour is a pleasant day out for some lunch and shopping."

"Travel to Shorncliffe by Citytrain is a nice way to visit the seaside.  Ipswich City is a very interesting historical place and is home to one of the worlds great railway museums, The Workshops Railway Museum (2)."

"Not a regular bus traveller?  Go for ride to Garden City on the south-east busway.  Bus ways in Brisbane are a public transport asset and well worth checking out at least once.  The river transport is always fun for the whole family as well."

"There is a fare increase from the 4th January 2010 (3).  Beat the price rise and get out and about now!  Journeys can be planned easily using the TransLink Journey planner found on the TransLink web site at the url http://www.translink.com.au/ or by phone 131230."

"Happy holiday touring!"
