Logan Safe Railway Precinct is on track to make Logan safer

Local Government Minister Desley Boyle today congratulated Logan City Council on its innovative Logan Safe Railway Precincts project which is helping keep Logan commuters safer.

"The Logan Safe Railway Precincts project is a great example of a local council harnessing modern design principles and technology to stamp out crime and improve residents' quality of life," Ms Boyle said.

"This is a progressive approach to improving public safety and creating more user-friendly public spaces in the process.

"Council's initiatives have included a closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance camera network, extra street lighting as well as redesigned public amenities blocks and strategies to address graffiti."

Ms Boyle said the Bligh Government had contributed more than $115,000 in funding to assist with the installation of surveillance cameras along the main commuter routes leading towards Kingston and Loganlea railway stations.

Member for Woodridge Desley Scott and Member for Waterford Evan Moorhead welcomed the funding saying it was helping make Logan safer.

"The project is creating safer precincts around train stations. The cameras are a real deterrent for people who might be thinking about engaging in unsvoury behaviour," Ms Scott said.

"Another great thing about CCTV surveillance is that it also reduces the community's fear of crime."

"The camera system will also allow authorities to monitor, record and respond more effectively to any criminal activity in the area," Mr Moorhead said.

"The Bligh Government is committed to keeping Queensland safe and secure, supporting projects like this is just one way we are delivering on that commitment."

Railway stations generally need more active management like the busway stations across the network... very little assault and practically no graffiti there.
