Not for the first time, I'm quite annoyed that this couldn't include the 1km-ish of second track needed to fully duplicate the line and remove any timetabling or operating constraints.

Not that even that would actually guarantee a new timetable.
Sector 2 still missing in action.

The lifts might not be working or finished.

Hi,
Your point is valid. However while there is zero intention to run a 15min timetable out there, the money, about $10-15m (I know it seems high but I don't see QR able to do similar projects for less) would be wasted and better spent on other areas of the network where the value can be realised sooner rather than later. I think Perth even has 15min on the short single track Thornlie line??? Certainly the Germans have no issue.

There is supposedly a plan for 15mins frequency in the peak.

Old Northern Road

Looks pretty decent unlike most of the previous station upgrades (Indooroopilly in particular). QR must have fired their old architect. Hopefully one day those nasty looking houses along Towner Street are knocked down and replaced with some some sort of TOD.

In a sensible world, Sandgate would be the terminus of the line and there could be a Thornlie or Mandurah style terminus not requiring a lift or overbridge.  Shorncliffe could be served by revising the local bus routes and running one to meet every train.

In a less sensible world, the duplication to Shorncliffe would have been done now as part of the upgrade works.

In Queensland-land, we get this situation.

310, 311, 312, 313, 314, 326, 335, 690, 695 all use Sandgate station (690/695 go to Redcliffe, 310 goes to Brighton, 335 goes to Brisbane City and 311-314 are local loops that all members here love to death :P).

There are nearby schools. Intra peak is interesting as many go to Toombul. There is the nearby school about 400m down the Road from Sandgate station with many walking to Sandgate or down the road to Deagon station. Nudgee and Banyo are similar for school students using. There's also a primary school close to Shorncliffe station.

Sandgate P1 will be commissioned and opened from first train tomorrow morning, with the temporary platform across the tracks forming P2 to be dismantled from Monday.

Sandgate will have both platforms operational as of 6am this Sunday apparently. Although Shorncliffe is closed this weekend, so from Monday it should all be open.

Shorncliffe Line closure over the weekend included the closure of the level crossing at Sandgate.

northside chronicle 16.10.2013

Set in train

Was at Sandgate station last Sunday.

Lifts not complete, all services departing the main platform (northern side), fare gates installed (two sets of ticket checkers, white shirts and navy shirts on the one service ex South Bank 2:10pm), one staff member floating about.

A latch gate installed  at Shorncliffe end of main platform with a sign to deter usual commuters, unsure why it is there.

A wooden end of line stopper off to side of path beyond Shorncliffe end of main platform remains despite being riddled with termites. Stand on it and it flakes off.

Electrical cabinet in stairwell to cross platform on main platform side was unlocked with full access to electrical wiring. I shut the door, remained unlocked.

Toilets were in use apart from disabled, opened door, refurb looked good.

Paint job/updating to station looks great.

Raising of platform looks curious, easy to see the blocks used to raise the platform. Lip of lower platform remains.

Disappointing no access to main platform from Kennerley St was constructed.

Nice overall, should be good when totally complete.

That gate is so traincrew can access the extension. There is a small depot at Shorncliffe.
