Any interest in RBOT doing their own metro think tank, like the Coast Regional Rail thing you guys did? I don't know if i could really contribute but I'd be very keen to see what you guys come up with

Well it depends as the nature of a forum is that everybody is individual.

Some of the 'exploratory' projects involving myself have been:

1. New Bus Network Proposal - along with aldonius, STB, James, others (apologies if I forgot someone here, happy to correct)

2. Regional Rapid Rail - exploratory way at looking at how HSR can be adapted to SEQ. Got off to a firey start but good constructive criticism saw the proposal settle on Gold Coast line modification via M1, possibility of tilts and 160 km/hr ideal speed.

3. Metro + CRR Probably the most controversial yet, but in this one the New Bus Network was combined with the possibility of a metro and see how that could potentially work. Early indication is that there is no engineering reason why it can't be done, good match for pax volumes along the corridor and would get a lot of pax from BUZ services 66, 150, 130, 140, 160, 111, 555 etc.

Main thing here to try get and refine the idea down to something realistic. There will of course, be problems, but this is where you get creative and solve it. Most problems have solutions, even the financial ones.

Of course, you can come up with ideas, even exploratory ones, and refine that if you like. Up to you really.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

I am in two minds about this crossing. I think money should be put towards new mass transit solutions from Kenmore, Indooroopilly, St Lucia, UQ, West End, via the City Valley and Teneriffe to Skygate via Hamilton Northshore.

Bulimba to Teneriffe is the only crossing "pair" (other than West End to UQ) that does quite well in terms of CityCat patronage. In particular a bus bridge there would be transformative.

I'm not sold on a subway. There's no one corridor of high density for it to follow, not really, and on the southwestern end you have the choice of going to UQ and running out of density to serve, or going to Toowong and just... running parallel to the heavy rail to go to Indooroopilly.
Running a metro parallel to the heavy rail would be a watse of money. Hence why that mooted plan in 2010 hasn't go ahead. A new alignment that runs through areas of residential high density, that connects shopping, education and cultural hubs is the best option.

Run the Ipswich and Springfield lines at 20 mins or better (driver only) and there you have your metro line running from Milton to Darra every 10 mins.
