Due to a record number of entries for the Bridge to Brisbane, QR has postponed scheduled track work on the Cleveland line this weekend to enable more people to catch public transport to the event.

QR has added four early services to the usual Sunday timetable, in order to carry competitors to the event?s starting point near Murarrie station in time for the beginning of the race.

The four early services depart from Bowen Hills station, stopping all stations through the city and along the Cleveland line. The services leave Bowen Hills at 5.13am, 5.18am, 5.23am and 5.28am. The first scheduled Sunday train for the Cleveland timetable will also leave Bowen Hills at 5.39am.

A bit late for QR to announce this. I would expect that most competitors have already planned other ways of getting to the start. It would also be good of some of these services ran in from the suburbs rather than people having to find their own way to the CBD stations at 5am.

I ran the Bridge to Brisbane today. The event was well planned, just a shame that QR couldn't get their act together to get people home in good time. There was a 17 min queue for tickets at Fortitude Valley - surely QR must have predicted the demand and could have added extra ticket sellers? Then after that queue, I noticed that the Ferny Grove only has an hourly outbound service until around 10:30 from the City (racers finish from around 7:15am). Pathetic, especially given that alternate in/out of service trains are running to Ferny Grove from the City every 30mins from around 7:30am to provide the inbound 30mins frequency.

Yet another example of Brisbane's public transport being planned as if it's a small country town.

So they couldn't delay the work on the Ipswich line for a international event because "there are only a few other weekends" but they can for a Brisbane event?

The numbers expected to use public transport for the Bridge to Brisbane are considerably more than those expected to use public transport to the V8 supercars!
