New busways top 100,000 trips - in just three days

South East Queensland's two new busways, have already taken more than 100,000 passengers, Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said today.

Ms Nolan said services began on Monday for the new Boggo Road busway and the Northern busway.

The new sections connect Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, the University of Queensland and Boggo Road to the existing busway network.

"In just their first three days, these new busways have carried 3600 bus services," Ms Nolan said.

"That's more than 100,000 trips where passengers have had a more reliable and efficient service.

"The new busways are helping people get to university, to hospitals and into the city faster.

"The buses are off our roads - meaning people who need to travel by car have more room to move.

"And people wanting using public transport now have even more options."

Ms Nolan said the new busways showed how a well-planned and well integrated public transport system could deliver quick results.

"This is half a billion dollars of investment well spent," Ms Nolan said.

"And we'll continue investing in more services and more infrastructure so we can carry more and more passenger on public transport."
