QR as a government agency/department?

Now that QR is being restructured and part of it soon to be a new GOC, I'd wonder what would happen if it became a government department or agency instead.  Is it even possible some time in the future?

I do know for sure there's a lot of differences between QR and most of QLD Government, which might prevent it from happening.  But is there any benefit in doing so?

I think the benefit was in changing it to a GOC in the first place. Changing it back would be a backwards step.

And this is coming from someone who works for the QLD Government!

(Opinions are my own of course.)

Maybe there will be more accountability if it was brought back into the realm of proper open government, particularly from the Auditor-General's perspective.
Casual observations around the network indicate much could be done to reduce operating costs. Has anyone seen waht an average station has stored in their claenares room - you could run a small school.

And of course, if the Government wants the public to believe that public transport fares need to increase to reduce the levels of subsidy per trip, isn't time the free travel for QR staff to and from work was eliminated.
Just because a person orders widgets in QR, they are entitled to free commuting, even to the point that they are saving in excess of $60 per week - come on!! Is there an FBT associated with this?
This is akin to saying that all staff in the department of transport should receive free vehicle registration.

Time to bring QR out into the accountability arena.
(My opinions of course!!!)

I don't think it would do much. New letterheads and paint/logo.
Re-arranging the deck chairs in my view.
