Beerwah Rail Crossing Taking Shape

The Queensland Government's $67 million Beerwah Rail Crossing Project will be open to traffic in September, Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said today.

Ms Nolan inspected the newly-completed 1.2km road bridge over the rail line at the southern end of Beerwah, which will link Steve Irwin Way and Peachester Road.

Ms Nolan said the construction would eliminate the existing level crossing, which caused traffic congestion and safety concerns in the centre of town and would also improve the local and regional road network.

Work is continuing on the project, including two new signalised intersections on the new link road, at Steve Irwin Way and Peachester Road. Right-turn lanes at these new intersections will provide safe turning across Steve Irwin Way and Peachester Road.

There will be further road works to realign Beerwah Parade and construct a new intersection at Laurel Street. Work is also continuing on the pedestrian underpass under the new road network, linking the town centre with local schools and the sportsground.

Ms Nolan said the local community would be consulted on a public art mural to be included in the pedestrian underpass.

"It will be bright, colourful and inspiring and feature a range of themes, ideas and techniques to create a unique piece of public art," Ms Nolan said.

The Beerwah Rail Crossing Project is being delivered as part of the Government's SEQ Infrastructure Program 2008-2026 to build 29 rail projects over the next 18 years comprising 268km of new track and 102 new trains.
