The SE Busway is one of Queenland's public transport success stories of the last 10 years.

Why do you say they will be a mistake?

Surely it will radically improve PT times?

should have been a train line. Buses are not trains.

I think that is a very narrow minded view point.

Brisbane has a low population density - semi-rural by European standards. This is in many cases best served by buses running along a core route, and then spreading out into the suburbs along this route. If bus services are frequent and well planned, and the busway is designed with sufficient capacity, then busways can work well.

Rail can only cover large areas of the city when combined with feeder buses. This is something Translink has yet to do! However rail is more effective than bus for travel over longer suburban distances (i.e. between urban centres of which there are many in SE QLD).

Brisbane needs investment in both expanding the busway system to more suburbs, and increasing the capacity of existing rail lines (as per inner city rail capacity study) with new rail lines designed to link urban centres (e.g. lines to Springfield, Sunshine Coast, Redcliffe) . Bus and rail services also need to be more integrated for public transport to be effective.
