QuoteNot a real sensible idea to bring these big buses to Brisbane.  These big buses will create additional issues for the road system because there will be so many places they will not be able to go and when they get into the city itself, they will create havoc when they try to use many of the existing bus stops.

In Elizabeth Street they already have problems with buses blocking George Street when they queue to wait for a place to stop.  I don?t think the buses will be able to navigate the bus station under Queen Street and I am fairly sure getting into and out of the busway at South Brisbane is out of the question.

They say that they will be used in the West End to Newstead area and from what I know of these areas the roads there are not really suited to this type of traffic.

They talk about cost ? and a very wise Commercial Manager said on a number of occasions ?If you go for the cheapest tender you have to be prepared to pay the highest amount?

No mention of how much these extra T3 lanes, special stopping platforms and all the ?other special arrangements will cost?.

Isn't this really just another inner-city bus route of the 19X variety? If Council builds these T3 lanes and special stopping arrangments we won't need these new vehicles. A bus-only corridor should be made from the Victoria Bridge along Adelaide St into the Valley. If these new contraptions have doors on the driver's side there could be islands built in the middle of the road to create more stops.

Am I the only one who thinks that West End-CBD-Valley is already very well served by buses? Newstead probably needs more but this could be achieved with a 19X route paired with somewhere that isn't West End. I propose Newstead-Valley-CBD-East Brisbane/Kangaroo Point.

For somewhere so close to the CBD the Kangaroo Point has shocking public transport.

Irrespective of the city glider service Brisbane does need to get some three door standard buses, especially ones with more standing room.  This type of vehicle is in operation elsewhere in inner urban areas where there are high levels of boarding and disembarking. Its nonsensical to think that you could run BT services with for instance the 14m Veolias that have two doors, but increasingly so it is just as non-sensical to think BT can run BT services with its own buses!
