Brisbane's first 'bendy' buses retire

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has highlighted the great service of the Volgren bodied Volvo B10M mkII articulated Brisbane Transport buses over the past 21 years.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The B10M Mk II articulated 'bendy' buses were the first in regular passenger service in Brisbane. Six of these buses were introduced in 1988 and have been carrying passengers ever since."

"Last Sunday a group of bus enthusiasts chartered one of these buses for a last grand tour of Brisbane suburbs.  Many of the old routes these buses travelled were repeated one last time. It is anticipated that the buses will all be withdrawn from regular passenger services this week. Newer modern buses will take over their important transport role."

"This is an important historical highlight of bus transport in Brisbane.  Well done to all the drivers and maintenance crew over the years who kept them running."

As the Tour Organiser for the mentioned Tour, thankyou for this excellent Media Release acknowledging the sterling work these buses have done transporting the people of Brisbane.
To get such good recognition from a group whose main interest is in rail is also appreciated.

Thanks Peter, pleasure.

Bus, ferry, rail, active transport all have much to offer in the transport mix.   Maybe with the release of the audit today we might see more cooperation between the modes and operators rather than competition.   Integration is the key.
