Greetings

Mark White who is standing as Family First candidate for the Ferny Grove electorate has made available a letter he wrote in March 2006 concerning this line and duplication from Mitchelton to Keperra.  Mark is particularly interested in your feedback on the letter generally but particularly the Grovely Station proposals.

The letter is available here as a PDF  1.3 MB  --->

Please comment on this thread, or alternatively email admin@backontrack.org and I will pass on.

Thanks to Mark for making it available.

Hi Mark and all,

You raise a number of very important issues.  Just a few general intial comments.   Parking at all railway stations is fast becoming a problem.  And as more and more folks are forced into train travel due to traffic congestion and cost of fuel it will need to be addressed.  Spill over parking is causing local problems in some shopping centres and neighbourhoods as well.  This is a particular major issue with the Ferny Grove line.

There really needs some long distance planning and construction undertaken.  To often it is a minimal  construction.  The recent glaring example of this is the Gold Coast railway line.  Hopeless predictions (grossly under) and this resulted in overloading and now expensive upgrades of the line.  Forward vision is required.  Our planners are failing us.

Contingent on upgrades there needs to be adequate provision for park and ride.  But also, systems of feeder transport that locals can use to go to the station rather than use their motor vehicles.  A great example of a successful system is the Brisbane City Loop Bus service.  Minibuses could do this role at a local level.

We need to change the way we think about transport and use it.

Smart people needed for a smart state!
