Connex's days operating Melbourne's public transport may be over by 2009 after the Premier John Brumby announced there would be a full competitive tender to run the city's public transport.

But the troubled operator, along with Yarra Trams, has had its contract extended by another 12 months to November 2009.

Victorian Premier John Brumby today said the Government had decided to keep the system privatised and run a major worldwide tender for the contracts beyond 2009.
