One of the station buildings at Buranda train station, in Brisbane's inner east, has been totally destroyed by fire in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to the QR station about 5:10am today and fire crews found the building well alight.

The iron and timber building and the ticketing machine were completely destroyed by the time the blaze was brought under control.

Buses have been organised to replace trains on all inbound and outbound rail services between the Cannon Hill and Dutton Park Stations, stopping all stations.

Translink said service was expected to be restored by 9am today.

Police are investigating the matter, but a spokeswoman said it was too early to say whether the fire was suspicious.

Police are appealing for anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

COMMUTERS on the Cleveland line could get a surprise this morning when they front up to Buranda train station.
The station building was demolished yesterday after an early morning fire caused considerable damage.

Police are treating the blaze as arson and yesterday buses were used to transport travellers from Cannon Hill to Dutton Park stations for the most of the day.

Commuters who travel to and from Buranda are urged to make alternative arrangements this morning but contingency plans have been put in place by Queensland Rail.

A ticketing machine has been placed at the station and extra staff are on hand this morning to direct commuters.

Portaloos are also available on what is left of the station.

For more information about public transport please visit http://www.translink.com.au or phone the TransLink on 13 12 30.

Meanwhile, traffic on the M1 into Brisbane is backed upa s fara s Tanah Merah, 20km south, after an earlier crash on the Riverside Experssway.

Motorists are also experiencing long delays on Logan Rd.

entire office now gone. hopefully the station is upgraded now for what soon will be a very busy station with the TOD going in. I think QR will just keep the temp office there and force the TOD developer to upgrade the station

Police believe a 17-year-old man was responsible for the blaze which destroyed a railway station in Brisbane's inner-east on Sunday.

The Loganlea teenager was arrested and charged with one count of arson less than 24 hours after the fire engulfed Buranda Railway Station.

The station building was completely demolished by the early morning fire.

Yesterday, buses were used to transport commuters to Cannon Hill and Dutton Park stations.

The man is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

QuoteBuranda station ticketing arrangements - effective 29 March 2009

Contingency plans are in place for passengers travelling to and from Buranda train station following a fire that destroyed the complex on Sunday morning.

Paper ticketing and go card equipment will not be available until further notice due to power loss and the removal of the building.

If you are travelling to or from Buranda train station:

    * go card holders should collect a voucher (daily) from the Buranda platform or Fortitude Valley, Central or Roma Street station ticket offices before boarding. If you travel from outside these stations, you will be reimbursed for not being able to touch off at Buranda station by calling 13 12 30.

    * Paper ticket holders should collect a travel referral voucher (daily) from Buranda station and hand it to QR staff when purchasing your ticket at your destination station. Staff will be at the station during hours of service.

We thank customers for their patience during these temporary arrangements.
