Adopt A Station

In 1991, TransAdelaide created a national first when it began its Adopt-a-Station program.

The program actively combats graffiti and vandalism by giving individuals and community groups the opportunity to 'adopt' their local tram stop or railway station.

TransAdelaide has 82 metropolitan train stations and 21 tram stops. Unfortunately, they all attract the attention of vandals. But, we've been making progress in recent years by ?

    * Removing graffiti immediately

    * Using surveillance cameras and

    * Working closely with the Transit Division of the SA Police

In fact, we've found that if a train station or tram stop is kept clean and looking attractive, graffiti and vandalism are reduced - not only at the station or stop but on nearby homes, fences and buildings as well.

Working Together
The Adopt-a-Station program is a partnership between TransAdelaide and community minded people to look after their local train station or tram stop.

The difference the program has made is remarkable.

When you join our Adopt-a-Station program, we will ?

    * Come out and talk to your group and explain the program

    * Provide your group with the Adopt-a-Station guidelines which incorporate Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare for volunteer groups

    * Provide paint, brushes and rollers

    * Provide personal safety equipment

    * Assist with landscaping

    * Supply plants etc.

    * Host working bees

How you can help?

    * Visit your station or stop on a regular basis

    * Paint over and remove graffiti

    * Complete activity reports - to help us monitor the incidence of vandalism and assist the Transit Police develop action plans; (optional)

    * Tend to any gardens or plants that your group establishes.

If you'd like to become involved in the Adopt-a-Station program, then we'd like to hear from you.
