Great photos Bob! Thanks for putting them up. I really wish I could have made it yesterday.  :(

So are trains still using the old stations? I'm commuting to work tomorrow morning from Elimbah, and no one at Central could tell me yesterday if I should be using the old or new platforms there.

Cheers

TransStink - because your guess is as good as ours! ;)

ozbob

Thanks MJ. Yes, the old line will be in use for a while yet by the looks of things.

Cheers
Bob

Going by another source, its rumoured it may be Australia Day weekend when comissioning starts up again,  But we shall see.

I hope it is earlier than later Arnz. Until there is an official statement we can't be sure.

Looking at the Beerburrum end yesterday it wouldn't take long to do the point work and the slew.

I understand the major issues are with the OHT.

Regards
Bob

Although not immediately obvious, there are no toilets included in the new stations as built at Elimbah and Beerburrum.

I understand that there is the possibility of toilets being added retrospectively following the issue being raised by us and others.

Here are the signs hanging on the fences at Elimbah and Beerburrum.  Farce ...

One reason why toilets may not have been provided initially is that sewerage reticulation is planned for the two townships in the foreseeable future. This may make the provision of septic toilets to the new stations uneconomical given revised EPA guidelines for effluent disposal. Just a thought.....

Of greater concern is all that glass to be kept clean - QR stations are not famous for their cleanliness and this 'contemporary' architecture can be left looking rather shabby if not maintained to high standards.
Compare the cleaning standards of your local stations with those of the busway stations which are maintained by private contractors - a bit like chalk and cheese.

Nevertheless a refreshing change from the 'lavatorial' architecture which has dominated the suburban stations since the early 1990s!!!

 ;D

Good point Brad.  But I understand toilets will be added.  There is a rain water tank in the yard of the new station at Elimbah, that might be the beginning.  I went to see if I could access the toilets suggested by the sign hanging on the fence at Elimbah, got bushed, ended up having a twinkle down under the bridge ...  :-c

Official QR pamplet on this project has the date earmarked for March 2009 (in regard to the duplication opening).

Perhaps the timetable change across the network may be pushed to March?.. or will the timetable changes in Feb 2009 exclude the Sunshine Coast (their TT changes pushed to March in line with the duplication)?

The pamphlet is dated March 2008 - so I'd say that was the projected completion at the time.

But I tend to agree that the timetable change will occur after the completion of projects (or certain stages) - so any delay to them will mean a delay to the new timetable.

Edit:  The June 2008 Fact Sheet puts completion at October 2008!   :-w

Some good photos there from those who attend the tour, they certainly show the progress for what has been happening with the duplication etc, thanks for posting :). To my knowledge, the triangle at Landsborough station usually only gets used these days when ARHS do their steam train tours up the coast, there is also another one of these at Yandina station.
Proud to be a Sunshine Coaster ..........
