The commuter service to Beaudesert seems interesting. Would this use the existing standard gauge.? If so, I doubt that there is currently enough track capacity through South Bank (currently at 19tph) for a half-decent (i.e. frequent enough that people actually want to use it) commuter service to be added on the standard gauge tracks. The track capacity would be better used upgrading services on existing lines. If the new cross city rail tunnel is constructed then it shouldn't be a problem depending on track layouts between Salisbury and the new tunnel portal.

If the line was to be converted to dual gauge then trains could travel via Tennyson and Corinda into the City. However, this would also impact on track capacity on the high growth Ipswich/Springfield corridor (currently 12tph), which wouldn't be advisable. It may also require track upgrades between Salisbury and Moorooka.

Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2007 - 7tph
Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2010 - 4tph
* departures from Central between 16:30 and 17:30.

To dual gauge the existing SG line to Bromelton then attempt to operate a passenger service over that line even as faras Bromelton would create major pathing problems for freight operation and if electrified so as to allow operation of ng passenger rollingstock would promptly put paid to future double stacked container operation.
A far preferable option is to build a ng line alongside the sg line in the same alignment and electrify that line for a passenger service.
the initial cost would be higher but it would over time save money and enable a far more reliable operation of services without conflict with SG operations.

Interesting.   I give the rail projects, sadly, a snowballs chance in hell - buses, boy they got a fixation with buses (CHEAP)! >:(   I hope I'm ssssooo wrong...
SEQ, where our only "fast-track" is in becoming the rail embarrassment of Australia!   :frs:
