Brisbanetimes --> New tech to automatically detect SEQ public transport breakdowns

QuoteArtificial intelligence could be used to automatically detect breakdowns on south-east Queensland busways and count passengers on train platforms to prevent delays on the daily commute.

TransLink has released tenders calling for experts to design new systems to count passengers and identify incidents such as vehicle breakdowns or animals on busways. ...

As stated previously,  it would be so much better for everyone, including TransLink if they did what Sydney does.

Twitter account for each line.  This hash tag stuff is prone to constant error ...   :steam: :fp:

With only 6% of the population on Twitter, why even bother with Twitter alerts?

I think among public transport passengers it is a bit higher than that.  But the way TransLink runs it with fuking hashtags and cryptic sh%t very confusing.

All they need to do is just have line accounts as per Sydney.  I am sick of suggesting how it could be sorted and be very useful.

Whilst we are talking Twitter feeds and having to redo the links to automate them. Does it make sense to have a separate Twitter handle for Rail Back on Track Feed to the discussion so the latter aren't swamped by the update feeds! Just an idea.

I have been thinking of stopping it because of the constant issues with hashtags TransLink end.

With the latest changes it is just all too time consuming to maintain it properly, so I have stopped the feed.
(still updating threads at my test site > https://railbot.info/forum/index.php?board=11.0 it is good to see the relative number of reported disruptions).

TransLink have the stupidest framework for this stuff, all they need to do is have line and region specific handles as detailed earlier in this thread. Sydney does this and it works very well of course.

Had enough for now.

^ agreed.  I suggested years ago to follow the Sydney model (earlier in this thread).

Vastly superior and not dependent on hashtags, which they make constant errors with.

The Translink RSS Feed is still non functional.  I emailed them again this morning asking if it was going to returned to functionality and when.  No response so far.

Queensland Rail X (twitter) is still not retweeting the rail service disruptions.

Just another day in paradise lost ...  :woz:

Cleveland Line

On Wednesday 1 May the emergency incident at Toombul station caused mass disruptions to train services.

Shorncliffe services were reported to be delayed up to 60 minutes and yet no impacts were reported for the Cleveland line - clearly impossible given the structuring of the network.

Multiple Cleveland line services never ran and yet no service disruptions were posted or shared by Translink. Even QR's own Facebook didn't mention any Cleveland line impacts (it also seems to be QR's practice to delete FB service disruption posts once it is resolved...).

I asked Translink for a please explain and now received the following response which reveals a complete failure of communication and complete inability for Translink and QR to work together on even the most basic responsibilities.

Every disruption to Cleveland line services were either misunderstood, miscommunicated or - most alarmingly - not prioritised to be published for customers to know.

So are we now to consider the service notices and status posted by Translink to only be those they consider a priority to publish? Status normal on Translink doesn't mean no disruptions, just none that Translink have prioritised telling us??

QuoteTranslink is committed to providing Queensland with an integrated, efficient and dependable public transport network. We are also committed to always providing passengers with a positive customer service experience. We acknowledge the frustration this would have caused at the time and apologise for the resulting inconvenience.

Please be assured your comments were forwarded to our Digital Solutions and Contact Centre teams to investigate the matter you have raised.

1) what Cleveland line service cancellations or delays were Translink advised of by Queensland Rail on Wednesday 1 May?
2) what time were Translink advised of these cancellations by Queensland Rail?
3) why did Translink not alert customers of these cancellations?

At 4.43pm, Queensland Rail advised of delays to Caboolture, Sunshine Coast, Redcliffe Peninsula, Airport, Doomben and Ferny Grove line trains are delayed up to 30 minutes due to an incident requiring emergency services as well as up to 60 mins to the Shorncliffe line.

At 5.26pm, advice was provided for 30 min delays to all lines. The information was misunderstood as "all affected lines" instead of updating the information to include Beenleigh, Cleveland, Gold Coast, Ipswich add Springfield lines. Apologies for this oversight, coaching has been provided to our staff.

The 4.32 PM Central to Manly service cancelation was advised at 4.58pm. Train scheduled to Murarrie at this time and other disruptions took priority.

The 4.47 PM Central to Manly service cancelation was advised at 4.43pm Other disruptions took priority, apologies.

The 5.24 PM Shorncliffe to Central service cancelation was advised at 6.23pm. it was advised this cancellation would go on to Cleveland, making this the 6.10pm train from South Bank. QR Communication for this cancellation can be improved.

The 5.02 PM Central to Manly service delay of 16 mins was advised at 5.11pm. Other disruptions took priority, apologies.

No information provided for cancellation of 5.47pm Central to Cleveland train(Due South Brisbane at 5.55pm)

Translink is working with our service providers and staffing in regards to improving our processes for updating the website and communication with our customers. We apologise for any inconvenience you may have encountered.

^ thanks for posting this information.

My understanding is delays < 10 minutes are generally not reported. We know from past observations that even when there are delays > 10 minutes not all are reported, particularly when large numbers of disruptions.

I have spoken previously with Translink staff re the ramshackle reporting of delays etc. and have suggested they set up a proper live dashboard.  Progress with these sort of things is slower than a battalion of sloths.
