Central Station importance

So where will Central be fitting in when the new sector changes come out? So they want Sunny Coast to Gold Coast and Beenleigh to Shorncliffe or Redcliffe going through Cross River Rail, so then not even all the lines will be going through Central? From what I can see, the only station that will have all suburban lines available will be Roma Street. The Government should really just change the name to Ann Street or Anzac Square station.
Keep the XPTs!

Yes, we've had a fair bit of discussion on this. Renaming the station to Anzac Square or Meanjin to reflect that it's no longer really the "Central" station makes sense. I think QR would be very opposed as it would require them to change a bunch of internal systems and whatnot (not that big of a deal but QR makes it a big deal).

I don't even see why it would need 6 platforms once CRR opens

I vote for Meanjin Hoptbhanhoft  :bna:  :bna:  :bna:  :bna:  :bna:  :bna:

Just curious, would it allow for conflict-free routing of trains?

Only three lines will feed into Roma Street from the south, Cleveland, Springfield, Ipswich.

Or will Springfield and Cleveland still cross?

Springfield and Cleveland dont cross atm.
The merging between Ipswich and Springfield already happens after Milton, so that line is already on 2 tracks by the time it reaches the merivale bridge junction.
Therefore the two tracks coming across the bridge don't need to merge with anything (now, or post crr)

Not sure if getting rid of P3&4 would happen, but I think it would make sense to move them from the subs to the mains, considering the subs will only have Ferny Grove/Cleveland services, and the mains will have Doomben, Airport/Ipswich and Shorncliffe/Springfield (+Northgate shortworkings?).

If you go on OpenStreetMap you can see how the tunnel configuration doesn't support an easy move of platforms 3 and 4 to the mains. Needs more tunnelling.

Also there'll be fewer people per platform on the mains post-CRR than today, it's just that there'll be way fewer on the subs.

What is possible though is what I call the "Central station shuffle" - widen platforms 2 and 4 over the top of their own tracks so that trains on the tracks for platforms 3 and 5 have platforms on both sides. Then the Ferny Grove trains board from the widened platform 2, and the Ipswich/Springfield trains board from the widened platform 4.

But that's a post-CRR1 solution. Pre-CRR2, when the Mains is overfull and needs to borrow capacity from Merivale, then we'll want dual platforms on the Subs again.
