Brisbanetimes --> New free Brisbane bus loop rolls out as roadwork ramps up

A new free bus will from early 2023 run for 12 months through inner-city Brisbane to tempt people out of their cars as big construction projects ramp up.

The free bus will run a triangular "loop" at South Brisbane, along Vulture Street past Brisbane State High School as far as Tribune Street, around to Grey Street and back towards Kurilpa Point, then down Montague Road until it meets Vulture Street again. ...

Great, it was a bit hard to work out they were arrows.

I think it will be a flop without two-way circulation.

Its just bad bus route design again.

Maybe they can shorten 192 to West End Ferry (UQ with Ferry is one stop, 192 bus is more) and consider removing the 198 which pre-exists busways, CityGliders and BUZ services and use those funds to make the loop two way and possibly put another bus straight down Boundary Rd.

Skeptical this will achieve much.

I think the CBD loop would actually work much better as a one way service since they follow different streets (of necessity) and neither runs so frequently that people like me could be bothered waiting for it as opposed to just walking.  Combining the resources into a single service running twice as often (or slightly better) would in my view work better given the CBD is relatively small and for many people taking longer trips such as Ann St / Adelaide St to QUT it would be immaterial which direction they go.

This thing on the other hand?  Bit too long for that approach to work.

I think this loop has the potential to be fairly useful. I'd have to talk with locals about the reasons they may use this instead of the blue glider or 199 but the area is so busy due to population growth and large numbers of people travelling into the area for restaurants. Because the area is hilly with loads of pedestrians it wouldn't surprise me if this loop is eventually better utilised than the city loop.

Point there, there's no good way to go Grey->Vulture clockwise. Best options are looping via Ernest St & Dorchester St or turning around in Graham St.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is actually an initiative of Cr Jonathon Sriranganatham. I saw some Facebook posts from him a few months ago looking for feedback from his constituents

Biggest problem I can see is that is only is really suitable for specific journeys. It doesn't have a stop outside the shopping centre on Mollison St and I can't see people lugging shopping down to Montague Rd, especially with other options nearby like the 199 or 198. The big plus would be people who could board/disembark at Grey St and use the Goodwill Bridge over to QUT/Government precinct but again it would depend on how popular that journey actually is in the routes catchment area. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong
