I've seen a lot of works replacing poles and wires on the Cleveland, Ipswich lines, and thorough Central. Why is QR doing this?

Assume maintenance, but also might be something to with the eventual ETCS rollout Milton through to Northgate.

It doesn't look like maintainence. It it wholesale infrastructure replacement.

Everything has a 'use-by' date where it needs replacing. It's likely renewal of infrastructure that is becoming life expired.

I do notice alot of fairly new concerete bases.  I've seen QR replace poles and supports that aren't even old and simply putting a new one next the old one.  It raises the question of why are they doing this when in NSW and victoria there are some Overhead poles and supports that are well in excess of 50 years old, and Victoria, some disused but original poles are still in place.

They have been putting in new pylons for stations that require accessibility upgrades. Not sure why there is accelerated program to replace pylons between stations? I guess in some cases where there is corridor upgrades track realignments and corridor widening?

There has been extensive upgrades to substations etc... Due to line frequency and new trains. Not sure if this translates in requiring new pylons?

Yeah some of the infrastructure down in NSW and Vic is full of rust but still going.

I think QR will remove overhead wiring through Central and replace it with suspended rail. Perhaps this is because of an incident a few years ago where a bat flew into wires which shut down the entire network.

I hope so, makes sense from Fortitude Valley to Roma Street.

^  I think rigid overhead conductor is going to be used in CRR of course but also through the CBD tunnels so that probably includes Central.

It's already in use on Platform 1 at Central. By memory QR released a statement a while back saying it would be used through the City tunnels (which would include Central station) and CRR.

Thanks.  Any idea where I can find the statement?  I have checked QR's media statements and nothing there, or at CRR.

Not offhand, i'll have to go for a search. I recall reading something about it after the trial section on the Doomben line was put in, but can't remember where.

Nothing to do with mtce, age or dewiring prevention. It will be used in the crr tunnels. There's a small section between Clayfield and Hendra on the Doomben line as the initial test site. It's just the next stage of testing the infrastructure at central only.
