I was on the 4.38 IPS ex Roma St. On leaving Sherwood I noted an early series IMU Airport bound coming off the Tennyson line.  Must have switched to avoid the delays.

Passengers on the Beenleigh line are facing extensive delays this evening after an incident on a Queensland Rail train.

Police and Translink are not releasing details of the incident at this time, but delays of up to two hours are expected on the line.

A Translink spokeswoman confirmed the train involved in the incident is blocking the line at Fairfield.

She said buses had been organised to take passengers from Dutton Park Station to Yeerongpilly Station.

Passengers who normally catch the Beenleigh line are advised to seek alternative transport where possible.

These incidents are most unfortunate.

Moving on, we might well see more GC / Airport services tracking through Tennyson with more imaginative timetabling in the years to come.

Hi Guys

Any updates on this, it affected the Cleveland line, as well.
however i must say that the guard, did a great job in keeping us informed, Cleveland line 4:58 Pm from central
We were delayed a while at central, then for a while on a usually unused platform at roma street due to the train congestion ahead.
Shows how a problem on one line, has major flow on effect to a large part of the rail network, thus exposing the fragility of the network

This would not ahve happeded if the merivale bridge had been built 4 tracks to start with.ITs not to late to make 1 lane on the hae street link a rail track!

Mario_128, four tracks over the Marivale street bridge would have made no difference on this one and an additional track over the Hale street link is just a fantasy anyway.
No doubt there could have been a better response with Beenleigh and Gold Coast trains being rerouted via Tennyson and Sherwood inbound and outbound trains to Beenleifg and the Gold Coast being routed over the Dual gauge line.
The outbound services would have been able to stop at South Brisbane, Southbank and Park Road and then resume normal running from Yeerongpilly, with busses being brought in to cover the intermediate stations, yes there would have been delays and they would have had some effect on the Ipswich line services as the main lines are out of use at present due to the work on the station at Indoorpilly, even so it COULD have been done, maybe someone in train control might have learnt something from this time and may think outsede the square a little next time if there is a next time.

As mufreight said, it wouldn't make any difference.

4 tracks on the Merivale Bridge or a track across the Hale St Bridge would not help, as they would merge into 2 tracks through the city. You would just end with the bottleneck being moved a few hundred metres north.

Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2007 - 7tph
Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2010 - 4tph
* departures from Central between 16:30 and 17:30.

According to a comment on the CM site, the disruption was caused by a suicide - which would be why they closed all 3 tracks.

As it was an outbound service that was involved in the incident, the dual gauge line is sufficently removed from the suburban lines that services could have still been operated over that line, even if it was considered necessicary to impose a speed restriction in the region of the incident.
