Rosewood park 'n' ride upgrade

Construction is expected to commence in early 2012 and take approximately three months to complete, weather permitting. We will continue to update our customers as the project progresses.

What is the Rosewood station park 'n' ride upgrade project?

The Rosewood station park 'n' ride upgrade project is a joint Queensland Rail and TransLink initiative to improve station facilities across the network and is part of the Queensland Government's $200 million Station Upgrade Program. The upgraded Rosewood station park 'n' ride will provide:

    an additional 30 new car parking bays, bringing the total number of car parking spaces provided by the station to 63
    improved lighting for station platforms, buildings and access paths
    improved security with installation of additional CCTV monitoring.

Why is it needed?

In addition to upgrading Rosewood station's park 'n' ride facilities, TransLink has added additional services on the network including the Rosewood line, which will make catching public transport easier for our customers.

Rosewood station is becoming a busy station within the TransLink network, and the upgraded park 'n' ride will help cater for future growth across the network. The improved park 'n' ride capacity will also help ease traffic congestion on Brisbane Road and the Ipswich Motorway.

What are the benefits?

The upgraded Rosewood station park 'n' ride will provide customers with additional car parking facilities to accommodate growing demand and enable customers to conveniently and safely connect to a public transport service.
How will this affect me?

Services

Train services will not be affected. Queensland Rail and TransLink will keep customers informed well in advance.

Construction

During construction, there may be some minor changes to pedestrian and vehicular access to the station park 'n' ride.

Absence of any local buses I suppose.  I had a friend who was living out there for a short while, and it was a good 2km hop up the road (mirroring the old colliery line) on foot.  The place is growing and not everybody is interested in subjecting themselves to the fairly unspectacular roads out there.

How about we get a decent frequency to and from Ipswch for a starter, the hourly? service to Rosewood serves the purpose at present with a 15 minute frequency to and from Ipswich it would then justify a half hourly frequency to Rosewood.  Big Elephant so small bites.

More than $300,000 will be spent on more car parking spaces at Rosewood train station. Member for Ipswich West, Wayne Wendt said 30 new marked bays would be added to extend the current 33-bay car park in front of the station office on Rosewood-Thagoona Road. "The Rosewood train station car park upgrade includes more lighting and CCTV coverage, making it a safer and more secure place to park your car," Mr Wendt said. "This upgrade will make catching the train from Rosewood a lot easier and encourages commuters to be environmentally-friendly by using public transport.

Development boost to valley

A NEW master planned community has been unveiled at Rosewood.

The 425-home Rosewood Green development is a 56-hectare site neighbouring both sides of Rosewood Golf Course with traditional or large lifestyle lots ranging in size from 360sqm through to 4600sqm.

Almost a third of the development will be given over to parkland, open space and koala habitat preservation.

A 5000sqm central park will incorporate a playground, kick-about space, multi-purpose half court with hoop, drinking fountain and an off-leash exercise area for dogs.

Rosewood Green sales and marketing agent Scott Blaney said the community is conveniently located just minutes from a wide variety of amenities on offer in Rosewood and its surrounding suburbs.

"Rosewood Green has all the benefits of an established and modern community, with a country-style living feel," he said.

"The community is immediately surrounded by local amenities and facilities, with everything you could want right on your doorstep.

"This means buyers can move into a brand new home and can still be a part of a thriving community at the same time."

Rosewood Green is boarded by two train stations, has direct access to two major highways, is within proximity to Ipswich, Greater Springfield, Brisbane and Amberley as well as convenient access to the local Rosewood golf course, schools, cafés, sporting and community clubs, swimming pool, parks and beautiful rolling countryside.

Mr Blaney said the estate would have a strong emphasis on providing quality open space.

"The community will blend country charm with all the services and infrastructure for a modern lifestyle," he said.

Residents will have access to a pedestrian walkway network that will connect Rosewood Green with the golf course.

Buyers can build with their own builder or can choose from a range of house-and-land packages from a variety of builders available at Rosewood Green.

Huh?  Lot better than not having access to rail. Many can walk that distance easily.

Sure beats the mindless car centric slums being pedalled elsewhere hey?

I regularly walk to and from Goodna railway station and my residence.  Around 2.2 km.  Hardly a challenge.  And there is a bus if I want, <drum roll> the mighty 524 ! 

Folk out west think nothing of walking a few km to the station. Some will drive and use the bus where available. 

They are not mollycoddled like some ...

I cant imagine those stations being parked out for a long time yet, and in any case, if you are living that far out, it's not for a car free lifestyle.

It is a much better outcome than some of these other projects like Yarrabilba which has a rail line only in theory.

This is why land like Cedar Woods needs to be intensively developed when it becomes available. Its much closer to the city and services.

A LEVEL train crossing that cuts an Ipswich town in half will undergo major renovations in an attempt to limit the impacts of boom gate failures.

Close to a million dollars will be spent on the level crossing on John St at Rosewood to reduce the bedlam major failures create.

It comes as the town became gridlocked on July 14 when a fault blocked the level crossing for hours in peak afternoon traffic.

The upgrade will begin with improved CCTV that will enhance Queensland Rail's monitoring capabilities at the site, improving its performance and making it less difficult for motorists and commuters when failures happen.

Then, new boom arms, boom mechanisms and a control hut will be installed, improving reliability and reducing maintenance requirements and associated costs.

The works come with a bill of $700,000 to the state government and works will begin in early 2018.

Ipswich West MP Jim Madden said the crossing cut straight through the middle of the Rosewood CBD and failures had substantial impacts on businesses and commuters as the nearest second crossing was 4km away.

He said he was pitching to the Department of Transport and Main Roads to carry out further road works at the same time to prevent cars queuing on the crossing at John St from blocking nearby intersections.

"The road was impacted for about two hours on July 14 and there has been four failures over the last six months," he said.

"This is a unique situation, one half of the town is on one side of the rail line and the other half is on the other side."

Rosewood Newsagency owner Sur Krause has spent 13 years watching traffic back on John St as boom gate failures cut the main business strip off from the rest of the town.

She said failures had the biggest impact during school and peak times when parents were stranded on the wrong side of the crossing to the school.

"It depends what time of day it happens as to what sort of impact is has but the worst time is peak hours. When that happens people start to get impatient," Ms Krause said.

"There have been a couple of major failures over the years like the one in July."

The John St crossing was selected following Queensland Rail community feedback and routine reviews to identify priority sites for improvement.

The works are part of a $7 million level crossing upgrade program being delivered at 17 priority sites across South East Queensland.

Rosewood Rail fail timeline

    March 24. A pedestrian gate issue caused outage of three and a half hours.
    May 24. There was boom motor contact failure but the outage was resolved in under ten minutes. Repair required an outage of 15 minutes when the response staff arrived on site.
    June 2. A vehicle dislodged a boom arm and the crossing was closed for repairs just over two and a half hours
    July 14. Track failure affected the crossing and the was an outage for repairs for close to two hours.

Yesterday it was revealed the station was likely to receive a new coat of paint and art project to represent its century of operation.

The announcement was welcomed by Division 10 Councillor David Pahlke, but he called on the State Government to deliver better infrastructure.

"I would like the state member to take up the commitment the party made - six years ago to progress stage two of the carpark," Cr Pahlke said.

The Rosewood councillor said an upgrade to the number of carparks was promised by then-Ipswich West MP and now Deputy Mayor Wayne Wendt prior to the 2012 state election.

Labor Member for Ipswich West Jim Madden said he had not heard from Cr Pahlke about the need.

"He's never asked me for the stage two carpark," Mr Madden said.

"David Pahlke has never raised with me the issue of any carparking at the station."

Mr Madden said the State Government received advice from the Rosewood station master that there "was no need for the stage two" project.

"It's hard for me to fight a battle if the station master doesn't think there's a need for it," Mr Madden added.

The second-term MP said Cr Pahlke should get in contact if there was a need to progress the development.

"David has been up there a million years," Mr Madden said.

"He's had discussions with previous members but he's never had a discussion with me.

"He can pick up the phone and call."

Not many services use platform 2.  And platform 1 is nearly always attended.  Having to get a ramp out isn't too hard.  I have seen plenty of people in wheelchairs use rosewood safely then drive off on their scooter into town.

THE status of a $300,000 commitment made in 2011 by Labor to upgrade car parking at the Rosewood train station remains uncertain.

This week Division 10 Councillor David Pahlke called for the State Government to fulfil a promise made by then-State Member for Ipswich West Wayne Wendt to upgrade the car park.

In 2011, with Annastacia Palaszczuk as Transport Minister, it was announced $300,000 would be allocated for more parking spaces at Rosewood train station.

Mr Wendt said 30 new marked bays would be added to extend the current 33-bay car park in front of the station office on Rosewood-Thagoona Rd.

A State Government spokesman said a recent park 'n' ride survey found about half of the existing parking spaces at Rosewood Station were being used.

"Any future expansion would be subject to demand, detailed planning and state-wide prioritisation of transport infrastructure investments," he said.

The work was being funded under the $200 million Station Upgrade Program.

"Rosewood train station is getting busier every day, so I'm pleased it has received a share in this record spend on the southeast Queensland network," Ms Palaszczuk said in 2011.

Building was scheduled to start early in 2012 and take three months to complete.

Buyer demand has resulted in a developer fast-tracking the third, $35 million stage, of its Walloon community.

Benchmark Property project marketing manager Karla Johnston said the "boom" at Waterlea was brought on by strong demand for developer RBG Service's first two stages.

Ms Johnston said stage three, The Village, would be unveiled in the first quarter of 2019, with 34 house and land lots initially and more than 40 homes under construction.

"We're confident the exceptional results will continue with The Village release because of its southeastern corner position giving buyers ease of access to the community's facilities and the wider Walloon township," she said.

"The Village is the most exciting release to date as it's the closest precinct to the train station, school, township of Walloon and the extensive waterways parkland being constructed.

"It also fronts the first section of the creekside parklands which will have a path that runs through the beautiful landscape.

Ms Johnston said the 200th buyer would soon move into the community.
