RAIL Back On Track - Media Release 20 July 2007

Brisbane:  Oxley Station Master?s House to be relocated

RAIL ? Back On Track (http://backontrack.org)  a web based community organisation for the promotion of rail throughout Australia has congratulated Queensland Rail and the Queensland Government for supporting the relocation of the former Oxley Station Master?s House to a new home at Corinda State High School.

Robert Dow said:

?The Oxley Station Master?s house has been a local landmark since shortly after opening of the railway to Oxley in the late 19th century.  It is planned to triple the now double line between Corinda and Darra and the site where the house is presently located will be taken up by the third line.?

?A call was made for organisations to relocate the house and Corinda State High School was successful. Queensland Rail will be relocating the house to the school grounds where it is planned to renovate it as a community hall and art gallery. Students will also contribute to the renovation. Construction on the third line will commence after the house is relocated in October.?

?The Brisbane City Council has two photographs (1, 2) of the Oxley Station Master?s house online in the library archives. These photographs were taken in 1952 and show the house adjoining the railway.  At that time there were three lines running past the house, two mainlines and a siding.?

?History is going to be repeated with the third line construction!?

612 ABC Brisbane did a live field report from Corinda State High School today, during the Breakfast show (9th October)

It was great to hear about how the house will be restored in part by students and used as community asset in the future.

Thanks to the 612 ABC Brisbane team for support of community initiatives.

The block of land where the Station Master's house was located has been significantly reduced in size due to the works for the new lines.

Some updates on the block
