Comments:

Northwest Brisbane is an established area that lacks priority transport. Existing services consist
of peak-only rocket buses that are stuck in significant traffic congestion. Light Rail in a Priority B
alignment offers a high capacity (10,000 - 20,000 pax/hr), high-speed solution that is expected to
be lower cost and easier to engineer than Priority A alternatives (dedicated busway or dedicated railway).

Construction of LRT in the Old Northern Road corridor will (a) extinguish the need for a motorway
to be constructed in this area, (b) provide an alternative to the congested roads along this corridor
and (c) cause the bus network to be remodelled into a feeder mode, making the bus network more efficient
and effective for those living away from the line.

Similar to busways and Gold Coast Light Rail, the patronage for this line will be from passengers
fed into the system under a terminate-and-transfer pax model. Some park and ride will be necessary at the
extremities of the system. The system will be designed so that buses drop passengers at LRT stations, similar
to the Gold Coast LRT system.

Higher speed LRT vehicles - vehicles will be capable of matching or exceeding street speeds (e.g. above 70 km/hr)
and have fast acceleration. Stations will be placed far apart (1.3-1.5 km spacing) so that maximum speeds
can be reached.

This proposal brings the opportunity for high-density rezoning around Enoggera Station to make it into
a local town centre or TOD.

Estimated cost (total, all stages) $2.5 billion.
