Cooran

Queensland Rail is upgrading and modernising the platform at Cooran station to improve facilities for customers. This is part of a $4 million project to upgrade platforms at Cooran, Pomona and Eumundi stations, replacing them with more durable, high level structures.

The platform upgrade at Cooran station is now complete and includes a new high level platform structure, new waiting shelter, new platform markings and upgraded lighting and security cameras.

Pomona

Works will commence at Pomona station from Monday 17 December for approximately five months. The upgrade will include a number of additional features such as soft landscaping, a heritage seat and plaque, new entry signage and a disability parking bay.

To ensure safety, customers will need to be in a specific carriage to exit at Pomona station during works. If customers miss their stop due to being in the incorrect carriage, please contact Queensland Rail on 13 16 17 or via text to 0428 774 636 and we will make alternative arrangements at the next station.

For more information, please contact 13 16 17 or email communityengagement@qr.com.au

3 car? but didn't they...
Do I really need to clarify?
Sarcasm and rhetorical questions don't translate perfectly into written form, do they?

Mostly Mon-Thursday services.

That particular Nambour service (morning peak ex-Ipswich ex-Rosewood, turns into counter-peak Nambour on arrival at Central) was one of the few of them that wasn't upgraded.

Edit: That 3-car Nambour counter-peak service actually originates ex-Rosewood as a morning peak inbound Ipswich/Rosewood line service, which also partially explains things.  Don't think we can expect that particular service (and its return service) to get NGRs anytime soon (once NGRs start running revenue services north of Caboolture).

ATP is already completed north of Nambour.

We're just awaiting ATP to be installed on the IMU100s (101-110), as the older IMUs are the intended long term replacements for the ICEs.  Currently there is a 3-crew requirement for non-ATP equipped passenger trains (i.e anything other than ICEs) north of Nambour.

The ICE's are an opportunity lost, the carbodies and running gear have plenty of life left and they could be refurbished and upgraded with the same control and traction equipment as the 160 series EMU's this would bring them back to as new condition for little more than 1/3 of the cost of replacements, they are comfortable for passengers and fitting a wide door to enable disability access poses no problems and a disability accessible toilet the same as those that will be fitted to the NGR trains also is a no brainer.
Refurbished and upgraded the ICE sets would have another 30+ years of life and would be a reliable back up for the Tilt trains when they are out of service for any time.

I thought that was the setback of not running NGRs to Gympie because ATP hadn't been installed and optimised on that route?

IIRC They haven't even started testing NGRs north of Nambour (IIRC HTG stated on this forum that said the NGRs weren't approved to operate testing north of Nambour), and IIRC from elsewhere aren't intending to operate NGRs north of Nambour in the medium term.

Basically the NGRs will eventually operate everywhere except Gympie North (anything north of Nambour).
