Would there be any point to such a thing? Maybe not as a commuter route but even as a tourist attraction (i.e. privately run charging fares to make a profit or at least break even if run by a community group etc).

I was listening to ABC Brisbane this morning and they had a guy on there from Redcliffe Chamber of Commerece going on that they had to have new businesses/attractions in Redcliffe to attract tourists etc, and I thought perhaps this could be one. It's only about 7nm across the water from Scarborough to Bongaree, so should easily take less than 30 minutes.

Edit: this compares to about 50 minutes by car and about 3 hr by public transport (and we wonder why people are loathe to catch the bus...)

I don't think so.

Both locations have the same things (Cafe's, parks, water views) so I don't see where the demand would come from.

Even Scarborough to Bulwer on Moreton Island is financially marginal, I can't see how a Bribie ferry would be any better.

Although last night there was an accident on the Bribie Island Bridge that had it closed for a while. Might be some demand for a cross passage ferry.

Qld Police had suggested people take an alternate route........ ???  :-r
