Eagle Junction station - concerns

Again I was reminded yesterday as I changed from the Airtrain to an Ipswich/Rosewood service at Eagle Junction, how deficient this station is as an interchange station.

Queensland Rail  currently advise passengers travelling to Doomben, Shorncliffe, Caboolture/Sunshine Coast and Redcliffe Peninsula line to change at Eagle Junction.

Low level platforms make it difficult for passengers to handle luggage.  There are lifts for platforms 1 & 2, 3 & 4. A non compliant ramp up from platforms 1 & 2 is in place, stairs down to platform 3 & 4. Even the position of the PIDs on 3 & 4 is a bit awkward.

SEQ Rail Connect ( https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/About-us/Corporate-information/Publications/SEQ-Rail-Connect ) has Eagle Junction as a major transfer station.  Something needs to be done to sort out this failure.

Any comments?

Definitely a poor station. They spent all this money on a new concourse only for the platforms themselves to be unchanged. Smells like a project which was cut back.

I don't see how these issues can be fixed.  Spending $20m (IIRC) on a completely unnecessary station building that didn't actually fix any of the issues probably didn't help either.

I'll say it again - Albion should be the interchange station.  There is plenty of room to build something there that actually works, including (with a few resumptions) rebuilding the platforms and alignment to remove curvature and allow for 9 car trains at both platforms on the mains.  It would also allow for access to Exhibition from every station north of Albion with only a transfer at Albion needed.

Given there appears to be no effort to actually make it easy to interchange at any of the other key parts of the route (Boggo Road, Roma Street) I'm not surprised this will be the outcome.  This State does not actually care about the passenger experience, it is all just a box-ticking exercise.  We will never see anything here the likes of Central / Wynyard Walk, or the bus interchanges at Mandurah and Joondalup line stations, and much less anything better outside Australia.

Wooloowin will be the new interchange station for 9 car trains down the line. TMR also holds land to the west to facilitate station and concourse upgrades.

Concourse had no mods. Only a new station entrance was built to accommodate a new area for station staff and platform buildings were converted to crew quarters for crews swaps.

The fact is SEQ Rail Connect shows Eagle Junction station as the interchange station.

Long term hopes for 9 car trains not withstanding (this will not happen for many many years if at all) something needs to be done about Eagle Junction, or the authorities clarify what are really their plans.
Large numbers of pax transferring at Eagle Junction is going to be a significant issue as it stands.

I am appalled at the apathy for public transport passengers. I think we need to start asking some questions about this.
