^ Factors in this patronage reduction:

1. Fares. New fare system Dec 2016.

2. Poor frequency of service for rail, particularly out of peak & #railfail.

3. Diabolical bus network.

4. Parking saturated.

Opening of Springfield Central (FY 13/14) would have taken some pax from Goodna and Wacol, and Gailes but not enough to explain the significant drop in patronage.

Folks have given up sadly.

I wonder what would happen if the all the Ipswich trains were extended to Wulkaraka?

Has been raised before Aldo.
Obviously it would probably need a third platform to facilitate turnback.  I reckon it could happen one day.

Wulkuraka was once a junction station for the Brisbane Valley line.

Here is a photograph I took in 2013 showing the additional platform face behind platform one at Wulkuraka.  I don't think this is particularly well known.

If/when Inland Rail is completed, there could be passenger services from Tooowoomba to Brisbane stopping at (among other places), Rosewood and Ipswich. If this were the case, then perhaps every second Ipswich train could extend to Wulkuraka and the Rosewood shuttles dropped. A bus between Rosewood and Wulkuraka could pick up the handful of passengers using the intermediate stations. Keeping heavy rail through those stations seems like a waste of resources at the moment.

QImagery shows that as being a dock platform in 1964 & 1985, accessed through the yard to the north of the line between the station and branch line.

https://qimagery.information.qld.gov.au/ - any spare time you had will be lost if you access that page.  :P
Searchable historical aerial images of Qld. You can even find the Burleigh Tunnel on the original Gold Coast Line, before the cutting was enlarged and tunnel removed for the Highway deviation.

^ Howdy RD.  I had a look at https://qimagery.information.qld.gov.au/  but cannot seem to find the images.

Can you identify the ones I should be looking for?  Thanks ..

Hi OB  ;D

  • On the first page, click the check box and get started.
  • Scroll the map in to where you want to search.
  • Click search with the magnifying glass on the left
  • I use "by point or shape", then select the square option.
  • Select the piece of the map you want to search by clicking and holding, release once you've got the box to the area you want.
A little bit bigger than the area you want pays off I've found, as it is not perfect.
  • Click search

It will then list photo runs.

  • Clicking on the run will cause a list of images that fall within your search area to appear.
It could just be a glancing run so as you hover the mouse over, a red box showing the outline of the image appears on the map (helps to zoom out a little for this step).
  • View will show the image over the map
(sometimes shows black, sometimes shows nothing, sometimes rotated incorrectly, sometimes out of alignment - it's free and Government run :P)
  • Download lets you keep a copy if allowed.

The smaller the scale the higher the resolution.

Let the time wasting begin  ;D
