Sunshine Coast Daily --> Smart phone app making Coast transport simple

QuoteGETTING from A to B on the Sunshine Coast by bus is set to get easier thanks to a new initiative from council.

A transport guide, using real-time information, you can have accurate predictions for services departing from your stop or station with up-to-the-minute departure times in the palm of your hand.

Transport Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the latest edition included some minor network changes, information on updated TransLink ticketing products and ways to save.

"Council's public transport guide is your one-stop-shop to using public transport in our beautiful region, and is one of several council initiatives that help make it easier for people to get around the Sunshine Coast," Cr Baberowski said.

"In addition to bus, train and ticketing information, the guide also contains a network map to help you plan your journey, and information on council's Flexilink and Council Link services.

"I encourage residents to pick up a copy of the guide, and learn just how easy it is to use public transport in some areas of the Sunshine Coast.

"Public transport may just be better than you think. For example, if you live between Caloundra and Maroochydore you can catch the Route 600 bus at 15-minute frequencies and travel one zone from as little as $1.30.

"If we all planned to catch public transport on the occasions that are suitable, we'd all be doing our bit to reach our target of 10 per cent of daily trips being on public transport in about 20 years, up from our region's pretty terrible three per cent now. Imagine the congestion across our region if we don't."

To plan your journey electronically, visit translink.com.au or download the MyTransLink app (or any number of alternative apps) on your smart phone or electronic device.

For residents without access to the internet, TransLink's call centre staff are available 24/7 on 13 12 30.

The guide is available at council offices, local libraries and visitor information centres, or by downloading a copy from council's website.

The public transport guide is funded by the Transport Levy to provide residents and visitors with alternative transport options to help ease traffic and parking congestion.

Cazza

Small issue in the guide: in the Maleny insert on the map, it says the 891 continues to Maleny rather than Landsborough
