I can't see how that claim is achievable without:
- Passenger services using the 3rd freight track between Lindum and Buranda for peak express services - approx. 9-10mins saving, but with two conflicting movements in am peak, and would result in ban on freight traffic during the peaks.
- Full duplication between Manly and Cleveland - may save approx. 3mins due to not having to wait at crossing locations.
- 4 more trains, and additional crew.
I have yet to see any business case or serious forward planning for either of these two projects. Neither are included as part of the core CRR project, and project work needs to start very soon in order for these projects to be completed by CRR opening.

Thanks Briz.

Could explain this a bit more please.

I've always understood that time saving is probably only for somebody who currently goes between the Cleveland line and the southern CBD via Central, based on a combination of:
- shorter waiting time due to more frequent services
- interchanging at Boggo Rd for a train to Albert St resulting in shorter overall journey time and shorter walk

If you work on Margaret St, it could easily be that much.  Not so much if you work in say 295 Ann St.

Thanks for the responses.  I think they probably mean more along the lines that SurfRail is suggesting rather than gains from changed operating practices, although this will save a bit.

I will summarise it and pass it on.

Dear Mayor Williams,

We have considered the claims that Cross River Rail will reduce trip times from Cleveland by 14 minutes.
We note the lack of an official response.

There are two aspects to the claim.  The first is the possibility of changed operating practices on the actual Cleveland line itself.  If the line is duplicated there will be time savings between Cleveland and Manly (the putative frequency of 10 trains per hour peak post CRR does imply duplication) probably in the order of 3 minutes reduction not having to wait at crossing locations (reliability would be MUCH better though). The other factor is that it is possible to use the freight line for express services between Lindum and Buranda with around 9 minutes time saving.  Doing this though would mean a ban on freight during peaks, and also has some conflicting moves.

The second aspect and probably what they really mean is that passengers presently going to Central to access the southern Brisbane CBD could in fact interchange at Boggo Road for a train to the new Albert St station. This would result in a much shorter overall journey time and a shorter walk in the CBD. This would be the order of 10 to 15 minutes.  There would be shorter overall waiting times too due to much more frequent services.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Robert

Increase in 2tph inbound for 2 hours = 4 additional trains.
