Brisbane:  Road congestion again highlights the need for rail and bus transport solutions

RAIL ? Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community organisation for the promotion of rail throughout Australia has said the chronic road congestion in Brisbane is having significant economic costs and now affecting the well being of residents.

Robert Dow said:

?Today in Brisbane has seen the Ipswich Highway and the Gateway Motorway in virtual gridlock.  Motorists are being caught in traffic jams nearly every day now.  The public transport systems are straining to meet demands.  It is imperative that the Queensland Government, the Brisbane City Council continue to accelerate the proposed improvements to ferry, rail and bus transport solutions.?

?Recent timetable changes on the QR Citytrain network are very minor, but welcome. It is time that the transport planners get out of their tax payer funded vehicles and travel the public transport systems during peak and off peak times to gain a real appreciation of what can be done to improve capacities. RAIL Back On Track has consistently made sound and constructive suggestions. Rarely are these suggestions acknowledged.  It seems much public feedback is ignored.?

?Residents are being continually stressed by the traffic jams. If the public transport is accessible and frequent, they would be able to use that and help reduce traffic congestion.   We invite transport planners in Brisbane to visit our web site and forum at http://backontrack.org and take note of the many constructive suggestions made.  It can only help!?
