Project info

The Department of Transport and Main Roads is aware of the ongoing and increasing transport pressures relating to road, active transport and public transport modes on the Bulimba Peninsula in the suburbs of Bulimba, Hawthorne and Balmoral.

To address this, we are undertaking the Bulimba Peninsula Transport and Congestion Study to provide a better understanding of these pressures. The study is a multi-modal transport and traffic assessment of the Bulimba Peninsula, including the suburbs of Bulimba, Balmoral and Hawthorne.

The study will investigate ongoing and emerging traffic and transport pressures relating to circulation within the peninsula by private vehicle, public transport and active transport; and key connections via the river, road and rail network to adjacent suburbs and core employment centres.

We are facilitating a 6-week community listening program to gain a thorough understanding of the transport pressures and opportunities in the area.

Tuesday 24 April, 7–9am at Bulimba ferry terminal
Tuesday 24 April, 3–5pm at Bulimba Library
Thursday 26 April, 7–9am at Morningside train station
Saturday 28 April, 9am–3pm at Oxford Street Bulimba (outside Woolworths)
Tuesday 1 May, 7–9am at Hawthorne ferry terminal
Tuesday 1 May, 4–7pm at St John the Baptist Anglican Church, Bulimba.

Bulimba Peninsula Transport and Congestion Study

Greetings,

RAIL Back on Track welcomes The Department of Transport and Main Road's study into transport
and congestion in and around Bulimba.

"This is a very welcome announcement, we have been highlighting transport and congestion problems
in the Bulimba area since 2011." RAIL Back On Track administrator Robert Dow said.

"Back in 2012, Brisbane City Council rejected our idea of a BulimbaGlider, but a BulimbaGlider is
exactly what Bulimba needs."

"A BulimbaGlider service could run at least every 10 minutes, from 7 am to 7 pm, 7 days."

RAIL Back On Track favours the amalgamation of routes 230 and 235 into a single BulimbaGlider service,
we provide a map of such a route below. A similar, successful, amalgamation happened with routes 196 and 197 in the
West End and New Farm area, so there is a precedent.



Our route proposal would allow Bulimba residents to connect with Roma Street rail station, Woolloongabba, Bulimba, but also
the Cleveland line at Morningside rail station. Our proposed route runs directly outside the proposed development on
Department of Defence land.

Only "top-up" funding is required to get the BulimbaGlider concept going, the majority of funding could
come from reorganisation of the existing 230 and 235 service.

BulimbaGlider is something that we think could be rolled out in 12 months flat.

RAIL Back On Track looks forward to the outcome of the transport study, and encourages anyone with an interest
