Stillwater

There was a standby driver on board for the media launch 'just in case' and to get the vehicle around roundabouts.  Apart from that, it was fine operating in a straight line.

Gazza

So what is impressive about a automatic vehicle the only goes in a straight line by itself?

^ geez....permaneg much??
Quoteaiming to give locals a taste of the future
its just a sample....ever hear of the term 'you have to start at the bottom and work your way up'??
small steps big results in the end.....
Two words >> 'Machine Learning'.
As long as algorithms can be trained and as long as a thing called computer vision exists.......cars/buses WILL be driverless on ALL types of roads/traffic.....guaranteed.
The only reason 'self driving' is so basic at the moment is because the industry is limited by computer processing power to manage the large datasets required for the machines to learn......quantum computing will put an end to that.
When it reaches its zenith the only threats would be humans manually driving cars and of course hackers(which you will never get rid of).

Gazza

No, not at all.

There are already driverless cars that steer etc.

If the only thing this does by itself is go straight, then ive already been in a 2017 Mazda cx5 which already has that feature in the Australian market and can happily follow and stay in it's lane.

So they are barely showing off where the tech is already at

I didn't need your braindump about the computing requirements of driverless cars btw cheers.
