Hey, LNP, you might also need CRR to make any significant improvements to Sunshine Coast Line frequency!

It could be immediately increased without CRR.  More extensions of caboolture services.   Caboolture/sunshine coast line is the only line that would see little improvement if CRR was built anyway.

Well it also requires ETCS to increase train paths between CBD/Albion and Northgate. Simply extending existing Caboolture services to Sunshine Coast will result in service overcrowding. CRR will have little benefit in the am peak. The pm peak has to contend with train paths reserved for Ekka Loop services which would be eliminated by CRR.

For significant improvements to Sunshine Coast/Caboolture/Kippa-Ring services, the Trouts Rd line is required, as well a quadding from its junction to Lawnton.

CAMCOS to Caloundra could theoretically also be done without CRR (although duplication + ETCS in the inner city is still  be required.

All existing Caboolture and Nambour slots would be extended/terminating at Caloundra.  Nambour/Gympie trains would be converted to shuttles at Beerwah , so they don't take up City slots.

The Nambour + Caboolture yards would be replaced with Woombye + Caloundra yards.  The Elimbah yards would be useful for the "Caboolture short-runners" during peaks as part of the ETCS improvements, whilst Woombye would house the Nambour/Gympie shuttles.

The existing Caboolture/Nambour yards could be sold off for TODs.

^ There's no way you would give up the stabling capacity in and around Caboolture.  You are still going to have trains originating there no matter where the timetable sends any going further north.

^ The expansion of the Elimbah yard would cover any demand for further "Caboolture short-runners" in a post ETCS (non-CRR) with Caloundra scenario.  More ideally the long-mooted "North Caboolture" station in the local media between Elimbah and Caboolture would also compliment the Elimbah yard (and extra Caboolture short runners) on top of the Caloundra services.

Off-Peak Loads north of Petrie on both the Caboolture and Nambour trains are okay, but not at danger of overcrowding levels anytime soon (unless if it's one of the few Weekday Shoulder Peak AM 3-car services ex-Nambour to Ipswich, where standing can start as early as Glasshouse Mtns sometimes during events throughout the year).

In a worse case scenario (LNP getting in and scrapping CRR/potentially no ETCS) with only the extra drivers trained from Labor days (with the now infamous NGR) and plus the Beerburrum-Landsborough duplication, this would only allow off-peak half-hourly to Landsborough (90mins beyond Landsborough to Nambour) during the daytime and early evenings. (Most late evening trains will still be required to terminate and to stow overnight at Caboolture).  There would be very minimal/no peak changes to the Cab/SC line under this scenario as most peak slots are taken.

Coomera to Helensvale Duplication commissioned!

Good Morning,

Congratulations to Queensland Rail and contractors, and all involved with the project on the commissioning over the weekend of the Coomera to Helensvale Duplication project.

RAIL Back on Track members report the journey on the newly completed new duplicated rail line yesterday was smooth and swift.  This was an important track amplification project and means the line now is duplicated all the way to Varsity Lakes.  This will allow an improved frequency and more reliable running.

The Sunshine Coast Line also needs to be upgraded.  We note this is the basis of a recent LNP Petition ' We Need Two Tracks - Beerburrum to Nambour ' > https://www.betterqueensland.org.au/twotracks
Despite the business case being completed last year for the first stage - Beerburrum to Landsborough North, the present Government has done nothing.

Another point of interest, we understand the first New Generation Rollingstock train has been finally accepted for introduction to passenger revenue service.  The Government and Operator are now waiting for an exemption from the Australian Human Rights Commission to run the trains in a non DDA compliant condition.  It is utterly inconceivable and unacceptable how the Government and  DTMR have sat on the non-compliance of these trains for years and in the last gasp have now been forced to apply for an exemption. Clearly, the initial design of the trains was botched.  Nothing short of a Commission of Inquiry will get to the bottom of this fiasco.

Best wishes,
Robert
