True ! But if they don't have any funds to repay for damages to the infrastructure? I guess they tend to get a jail term which costs society even more 50,000 - 80,000 a year. Down south they make offenders join a clean up graffiti team to attend to vandalism in the community and help repair Public Transport infrastructure as well as rid the train corridors of litter.

Just wandering when SE Qld trains will be revamped to rid etched glass and dirty carpet? Before Comm games?

Graffiti in Melbourne is really out of control.  It is good to see finally some sort of effort is being made.  There is a huge difference between the quality of rolling stock here in SEQ and Melbourne in terms of graffiti levels and general cleanliness.  I have been nagging Metro for a while now that something needs to be done, looks like something is at last.  Good!

Yeah I have seen the graffiti while on the train down there. Some lines worse than others. It's almost promoted; There is a book on Melbourne Graffiti. http://artygraffarti.com But I think glass etching and spray painting all over the train is beyond graffiti art.

When in Mel and Adl its usually kids from 8-14 that seem to do the most glass etching graffiti too.

Where are these kids' parents? They're 11, they should be at home playing with toys and watching ABC kids, not on the Ipswich line heading into the CBD at night. Goodness knows what the hell the parents are doing, this is how children get abducted or go missing.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Unfortunately it is now quite "normal" to see kids of that kind of age around the rail network late at night making a pain in the a#$€ of themselves. It is a real problem that needs looking in to.

From what I know of it can be a range of things from parents that simply don't care, through to family problems, and obviously out Ipswich way, it's filled with people from a low socio-economic background and that's where you tend to find these sorts of people.

When I was in sydney, I saw the entire side of a tangara car covered in graffiti.  Wouldn't have surprised me if the other side was also covered.
It was so much I was impressed, and just the spray paint alone would have cost the person a fortune.

I was surprised to even see it running, since it was a weekend, rollingstock isn't short.
Sydney trains definitely have different protocols to running trains with graffiti to QR, passenger wouldn't have been able to see out of the train and thr drivers side window was also covered.

SurfRail

Unfortunately things do tend to be slipping up here.  I find car exteriors and interiors seem to receive much less attention than they used to, and window scratches do not ever appear to be fixed.  Melbourne is even starting to look cleaner which I would have had trouble believing 5 years ago (however their bus system is the complete opposite).
