Media Release
Deputy Premier, Minister for Transport and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning
The Honourable Jackie Trad

Don't get marooned, catch public transport and get there to cheer on the Maroons!

Queenslanders heading to Suncorp Stadium for Game One of the 2017 State of Origin will have plenty of public transport options to get to the game and cheer on the mighty Maroons.

The blockbuster event is expected to attract a massive crowd and, regardless of allegiances, footy fans with pre-purchased match tickets can travel to and from the game for free on Brisbane Transport bus and Queensland Rail services from midday until the last scheduled service on Wednesday 31 May.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport Jackie Trad said more than 90 per cent of patrons at the series opener were expected to use public transport to travel to and from the game.

"Public transport is a convenient and safe way to travel to the game, especially if you are planning on having a few drinks and soaking up the atmosphere during the big game," Ms Trad said.

"A sell-out crowd is expected at the stadium and with several thousand more expected to pack into venues across the city and surrounds, the Palaszczuk Government wants to make sure no one misses a minute.

"Public transport is the quickest and most cost-effective way for Maroons and Blues supporters to travel to and from the game, avoiding afternoon and evening peak-hour traffic congestion.

"Fans should jump on TransLink's journey planner or the MyTransLink App to plan their journey before heading to the ground."

Kick off for the Origin opener is at 8pm on Wednesday 31 May. Gates will open at 5pm.

TO THE GAME:

Event shuttle buses will operate from 6pm until 7.40pm departing Carindale, Chermside and Eight Mile Plains at regular intervals and approximately every 30 minutes from Waterworks Road in The Gap, all bound for Suncorp Stadium. Fans can jump on the event shuttles from major South East Busway stations.
High frequency shuttle buses will also operate from 6pm to 8pm, departing from Ann Street (Opposite Central Station, near Anzac Square) and Ann Street stop 12 (near King George Square busway station).
Additional trains will run on the CityTrain network to Milton and Roma Street train stations. Milton is the closest train station to the Stadium.

AFTER THE GAME:

Shuttle buses will depart from under the Southern Plaza for one hour after the end of the game, bound for the Ann Street, Carindale, Chermside and Eight Mile Plains Busway Station.
Shuttle buses to Waterworks Road in The Gap depart from Given Terrace
Additional trains will also run on the Ipswich, Cleveland, Beenleigh, Gold Coast, Ferny Grove, Springfield, Shorncliffe and Caboolture lines to Milton or Roma Street stations.
